Road Trip part 3 - OneAmerica and the Broadmoor

Bob earned the trip with his new company OneAmerica to the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. It is a five Diamond/Star hotel and is amazing.

 The first night after checking in we were invited to a reception by the pool. Having been to many of these my expectations weren't very high. Except for Beneficial these things have been notoriously full of lots of drinking and lots of other less than pleasant things. Imagine my surprise when children are running every where and they have birds and animals from the local zoo there with face painting, balloon animals and hand puppets for the children plus a full on dinner buffet. OneAmerica is very family oriented and Christian to the core.

The next day after a very interesting morning with a guest speaker named Carol Kent http://www.carolkent.org/ we spent  the afternoon exploring the Garden of the Gods and some of the surrounding sights.

There were a few signs that made us wary of going up that road. lol It was a lot of fun trying and we found a park that would be fun to hike, camp and picnic in at the base of Cheyenne Mountain.






There are so many things we did at the conference.  Tuesday was an awards dinner.  Wednesday we had a wonderful morning listening to an inspirational speaker Ken Davis http://www.kendavis.com/ who's topic was
"I want to live". It was a very good talk with lots of good motivation.

Then we did a service project filling 100,000 bags of food that would feed 600,000 children. It was my favorite part of the conference. It made us both feel so good to be helping in a small way.

 

 Plastic bag, vitamin packet, soy, veggies, rice give to weigher and sealer.

Each bag feed six children.

      
After the food bagging we headed for the Air Force Acadamy (by ourselves) and then we had a dinner (with the group) at a Dude Ranch outside of Colorado Springs and got to see a mini rodeo. Fun stuff.

We really had a wonderful time at the Broadmoor (how could we not?) and we were very impressed with the new company by how family oriented they are and how walk the walk on serving others. It was truly worth every minute of driving.
